Independence & control
Does my family get control of my money?
No — and this is the whole design. You own the money, you choose the safeguards, you choose the people, and you can see every action anyone takes, forever. Your circle can answer safety checks you configured; they cannot browse your statements beyond what you share, change your rules without it being logged, or move money to themselves without heightened review.
Can I remove someone from my circle?
Yes. Owners can remove or change a trusted contact's role at any time; removals may include a short security review (so a scammer coaching you on the phone can't strip your protections in one afternoon — that pause protects you, not them). Adding a new person includes a cooling-off period for the same reason.
What if I don't want this and my kids do?
Then it doesn't happen. GuardCircle activates with the owner's consent, not the family's worry. What we'd gently offer: Watch mode is nearly invisible day-to-day — you bank exactly as you always have, and your family only hears anything if something genuinely unusual occurs. Many owners find that far less intrusive than the weekly "did you get any strange calls?" interrogation.
Will stores see anything different when a purchase is held?
No. The store sees an ordinary card response, the same as a bank's fraud check — no GuardCircle branding, no announcement. You see a message in your app; your circle gets one tap-able question.
Being a good ally
What happens if nobody answers a safety check?
The safe thing: nothing moves. The purchase simply stays held, and the owner can retry once someone responds — or an emergency backup (a role the owner assigns) can answer when primary approvers are unavailable. Approvals themselves expire after 30 minutes, so nothing dangerous is ever left standing open.
Can one sibling quietly take advantage?
This is the question most products won't touch, so we designed for it directly. Separate logins for every person; an approver can never approve money going to themselves; two-person approval on the highest-risk actions; and a cryptographically chained audit record that visibly breaks if anyone tries to rewrite history. A monthly report also goes to the owner and a second reviewer — so no single person is ever the only set of eyes.
How fast do I have to respond?
There's no penalty clock. But safety checks arrive as one-tap messages, and our design target is family answering in under a minute. In practice the rhythm is: rarely bothered, quick when it matters.
I live far away. Does that matter?
Not at all — that's who this is for. Approvals work identically from three miles or three time zones. Distance stops mattering the moment the alert reaches your pocket.
Accounts, cards, coverage
Do we have to switch banks?
No. Watch mode connects to the accounts you already have through read-only connections — over 11,000 institutions are supported through our aggregation partner. Guard mode adds the protected reserve and destination firewall for the strongest protection. Start wherever you're comfortable.
Can GuardCircle stop a transfer from my existing bank account?
Honest answer: not directly — and be wary of anyone who claims otherwise. No outside service can intercept a wire or Zelle leaving another bank's account. What Watch mode does is see it fast and alert the right people with guided next steps. What Guard mode does is more powerful: money held in GuardCircle's protected structure simply can't leave for a new destination without a family OK — the scam has nothing to grab.
Is there a physical card?
A GuardCircle debit card is on the roadmap for Guard mode (issued with licensed banking partners). During the pilot, the platform's protection logic — safety checks, approval windows, the destination firewall — runs fully, with the card arriving as the final piece rather than the foundation.
Does GuardCircle see my bank password?
Never. Bank connections happen inside your bank's own login through Plaid, the same connection layer used by major financial apps. GuardCircle receives a secure token and transaction data — your credentials never touch our systems.
What does it cost?
Pilot families get founding pricing, locked for life, in exchange for honest feedback. Post-pilot pricing will be published plainly on this site — think "streaming subscription," not "wealth management fee." We will never monetize by selling data; if we can't say that forever, we'd rather not exist.
The fine-grained stuff
How does ScamCheck decide something looks like a scam?
It looks for the patterns behind nearly every scam script: gift-card or crypto demands, manufactured urgency, government impersonation, "keep this secret," relatives-in-trouble stories, verification requests. It explains exactly which signs it found in plain language — and it will never tell you something is definitely safe. When in doubt, it helps you call a person you already trust, or your bank on the number printed on your card. Try the free version any time at guardcircle.net/scamcheck — it runs entirely in your browser.
What can my family see about my spending?
What you choose. Roles are granular: an observer might see only alerts; an approver sees the safety checks they're asked to answer; a guardian sees more, if you grant it. Nothing expands without your consent, and every change of access is logged where you can see it.
What happens to my data if I leave?
Disconnecting an account stops collection immediately; closing your account deletes your personal data on the schedule in our privacy policy, except records the law requires us to keep. We never sell data while you're here, and we don't when you go.
Is GuardCircle a bank? Is money insured?
GuardCircle is not a bank. Monitoring uses read-only connections to your existing (FDIC-insured) accounts, which stay exactly where they are. When Guard-mode custody launches, funds would be held at licensed partner institutions with the protections they provide — and we'll state plainly, in writing, which protections apply before you move a dollar. During the pilot, money features run in a controlled test environment.
